A simplified view of how I want to use my apps to learn more efficiently

I bought a learning course the other day by none other than Justin Sung. I had previously bought a course called Finding Gravity by Justin Sung. The course was full to the brim with useful and insightful information about studying more efficiently. This is in fact what led me to attempt at using mindmaps more. Although there were so many nuggets within this course, I rushed through it and there were a lot of unanswered questions which I just put aside. I really thought I would just figure it out on my own. Boy was I wrong!

Justin Sung actually put out another course called I Can Study which holds your hand a lot more. It is directed towards Australian high school and medical students primarily, but the concepts can apply to whatever you want to learn. I enrolled in the course about a month ago. This time, I am trying to take my time with it more. It’s gonna be a bit of a challenge to juggle this with work, but I am planning on tackling it in small increments at a time.

Fundamentals: Management Triad

The 1st section talks about the basics of studying and the importance of having the fundamentals correct. The main concept behind the fundamentals is management. All of this is interleaved with spacing, interleaving and retrieval practices which binds the whole system together. This creates the skeletal structure for us to use the other techniques.

The key concept is management. Management of your time, tasks and most importantly your attention.

This is nothing new. I’ve been struggling with this for most of my life now. I could never find myself to be consistent with any form of schedule that I made. I have my fingers crossed, however, that this time it will be different! 🤞

This fundamentals section is actually really short and Justin Sung did say that he kept it vague so that the members struggle, fail and learn from that process on their own. Later on in the course, he says he will reveal the better alternatives.

I am having trouble coming up with a system and I know Tiago Forte is a master of organization and digital management. So I refreshed my readings from him and I made a little mindmap.

Time and attention are limited. Attention is the key idea that is necessary and flows into everything else. The individual nodes are the apps that I use the most often. We start with the prepatory apps (time/task) management. This is done in the beginning (day/week). Then we gather the resources and research some more. Next we apply that knowledge by consolidating into notes and/or working on projects! Lastly, we want the most important skills & knowledge to be retained in our brain. So we encode the pertinent facts/skills into our long term storage
I haven’t really planned out weekends yet. I want to leave it open cause I visit my relatives most weekends anyway. 🍅 = 25 minutes • 🍝 = 50minutes . In a perfect day, I should be able to get 3 hours of some form of learning done.

Other Good Ideas

I have other experiments and ideas I want to start to incorporate, but before I move on, I got to get these basics down.
