Creating a System

In my previous post, I outlined 3 sources that greatly impacted me. Just as a refresher, those sources are:

  1. Finding Gravity by Justin Sung
  2. Magnetic Memory Method by Anthony Metivier
  3. Quantum Memory Power by Dominic O’ Brien

Out of the three, Finding Gravity probably had the greatest impact on how I approach learning today. It convinced me to try to use mindmaps and to create a system for doing so. More importantly though, it gave me a holistic, big picture idea of what effective learning consists of.

In fact, it was after consuming the Finding Gravity course, I felt satisfied to stop searching and looking up new sources on effective learning. Information overload is real.

Justin’s course encouraged me to try to use mindmaps. After multiple mindmap attempts, this is one iteration that I am happy with

Changes to My Learning Approach

I take a lot less notes. In fact, I barely take notes anymore. When I do take notes, it’s more messy and are more likely to be mindmaps. I use a lot of images and shorthand symbols because it’s faster & more memorable. I can connect information to the bigger picture because I create a mental framework before I learn something. This helps me not get lost in the details.

I guess I really took the mantra ‘work harder not smarter’ to heart. Eh?

Why Create A Learning System??

If you’re like me, chances are you’re not learning very efficiently. I am getting old and don’t have a lot of free time after work. And I feel like I’ll get even less free time the older I get. Therefore, I wanted to ensure that I am learning in the most optimal way possible.

It also gets rid of decision fatigue. When you tackle a problem, you know exactly how to approach it. This really helps!

Creating a learning system takes some time initially, but like any other good system, it makes the rest of the process much smoother.

My system is not perfect, but I am happy with it and therefore it makes learning much more enjoyable! I still tinker with my system here and there, but the foundation is all there.

I highly recommend the 3 courses because it will open up your mind to new possibilities.
